What's new in ClipSalvage

Every ClipSalvage release, with what changed and when. Newest first.

v2.40.2
  • Bug fixes and improvements for video recovery, scan progress and previews.
v2.40.1
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v2.40.0
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent drive images from being saved.
  • In our internal testing so far, 2.40 saved 21% more clips that passed full playback checks than 2.39. This measures passing clip counts; footage duration and completeness are still being evaluated.
  • More thorough clip playback checks mean scans can take longer.
v2.39.3
  • Find more of your footage. ClipSalvage now reads your drive's own records, so existing clips keep their original names and fragmented deleted clips are rebuilt in the right order.
  • Clearer, more honest results. Every clip shows where it came from and how complete it is, with live progress while deleted videos are checked.
  • Faster on Windows. Checking deleted videos is about twice as fast on 64-bit Windows PCs.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v2.39.0
  • Find the right moment faster. Filter decrypted footage by Recent, Saved or Sentry clips, so you can focus on your drive, a saved moment or a parking event.
  • Follow events in order. Clips now appear chronologically within each event, making it easier to piece together what happened across cameras.
  • Know your decryption is still working. Clearer progress messages show when ClipSalvage is retrieving keys, using cached keys or waiting to retry, so a pause no longer looks like a frozen app.
  • Understand the condition of your footage. Clearer clip-status labels replace the fixed "95%" badge, helping you distinguish playable footage from clips that needed repair.
  • Activate Pro with less guesswork. Already purchased? Go straight to activation, entering your purchase email and activation code after opening checkout.
  • Fewer interruptions on Windows. More reliable USB detection and fewer background command windows help you stay focused on your footage.
  • More accurate scan information. USB scans and resumed scans now report the correct source size on drives that previously showed an incorrect value.
  • A fresh look, with clearer choices. Updated app icons and Windows setup make ClipSalvage easier to recognise and explain what's included: free decryption of existing encrypted clips, three free deleted-clip recoveries, and unlimited recovery with Pro.
v2.38.2
  • Traditional Chinese. ClipSalvage now follows Traditional Chinese system settings automatically, with both Traditional and Simplified Chinese available from the language picker.
v2.38.1
  • Safer disk-image replacement, cancellation, and disk-geometry handling.
  • More reliable recovered-file naming and batch recovery behaviour.
  • Improved camera-model classification, saved atomically.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v2.38.0
  • Optional usage measurements, off by default. ClipSalvage now asks once whether it may send anonymous measurements to help us improve recovery — nothing is sent unless you say yes, declining is exactly as easy as accepting, and no identifier links a measurement to you or to a purchase.
  • Recovered filenames are no longer lost. A clip whose original filename was recovered could have it stripped again during cleanup and fall back to a generic name.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v2.37.0
  • Decryption is now free and unlimited for everyone. Decrypting and exporting encrypted Tesla clips no longer costs anything and is no longer capped — sign in to Tesla once and decrypt every clip on the drive.
  • The separate ClipSalvage Decrypt licence is retired. There is no longer a Decrypt tier or a Decrypt-to-Pro upgrade to buy. Licences already issued remain perpetual and keep working exactly as before.
  • Pro is now $49, one-time. Pro adds unlimited recovery of deleted and formatted clips on top of the free tier, which scans, previews, decrypts and exports without limit and includes 3 free recoveries. Nothing expires.
  • Fixed: a clip still present on the drive that had to be repaired now counts as a recovery rather than a free decrypt.
  • Fixed: a free user who has used all three recoveries can still decrypt every intact clip.
  • No usage tracking. v2.37.0 shipped with an optional anonymous counter behind a switch in About. We have since decided not to collect it at all — the receiving endpoint was never built and will not be, so nothing was ever recorded. A following release removes the sender.
v2.36.0
  • Now in German and French. ClipSalvage is fully localized in Deutsch and Français, joining English and Chinese — including Tesla's own terminology for Sentry Mode and Dashcam.
  • Decrypt straight from a Tesla USB or disk image. Plug in your TeslaCam drive, or open a disk image of one, and preview, select, decrypt and export its encrypted clips in one step — no deleted-clip recovery scan required.
  • Tesla sign-in up front, once. You're asked to sign in before choosing a drive or image, and a valid session is reused silently, so the decrypt run never stalls part-way for credentials.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v2.20.1
  • New — ClipSalvage Decrypt ($9.99). Batch-decrypt and export encrypted Tesla clips, with an in-app upgrade to full Pro for $19.99.
  • Fixed the "Update available" prompt. Existing installs are now notified when a new version ships.
  • Faster clip grid on large recoveries, plus bug fixes and improvements.
v2.20.0
  • Recover & decrypt encrypted Tesla dashcam clips. Sign in to Tesla once to fetch the keys, then browse, repair, and export your encrypted Sentry & Dashcam footage — fully offline afterward.
  • Automatic repair of damaged clips. Partially-overwritten clips are rebuilt into playable video, and every clip shows its true recoverability.
  • Windows on Arm. Native Arm64 installer alongside macOS and Windows x64.
  • Free tier upgraded. Preview unlimited, recover 3 clips, and decrypt 30 encrypted clips — free.
  • Reliability improvements and bug fixes.
v2.0.1
  • Tidies up the old app. On macOS, ClipSalvage now offers to move the leftover Sentry Recovery app to the Trash for you after updating.
  • Localized purchase terms and the ability to image a single partition when creating a disk image.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v2.0.0
  • Sentry Recovery is now ClipSalvage. A rename, not a redesign — every recovery feature works exactly as before.
  • Your license and data carry over automatically on an in-place update — nothing to re-activate or re-import.
  • New app icon and branding; native Windows on Arm build included.
v1.9.0
  • Better recovery on FAT32 drives and reused media. Cluster alignment now uses actual drive geometry; the fragment reassembly pass extends to FAT32 sticks; corrupt video header fields are filtered rather than misread.
  • Faster scans and smoother clip grid. Batch DB inserts, a single ML inference pass per thumbnail chunk, and multi-clip recovery over one device handle reduce scan time. Each clip card now watches only its own selection bit, and thumbnails flush as one UI update per chunk.
  • Smarter fragment reassembly. Below-gate reassemblies that score strictly better than the contiguous carve are now committed at their honest confidence.
  • Bug fixes and reliability improvements.
v1.8.1
  • Bug fixes and general improvements.
v1.8.0
  • Native Windows on Arm. A native Arm64 build for Snapdragon X / Copilot+ PCs runs without emulation — faster scanning, thumbnails, and AI classification.
  • New on-device AI engine. Camera-angle classification now runs on ONNX Runtime, built into the app.
  • Repaired clips are surfaced. Clips rebuilt from scattered fragments now show a "Repaired" badge, a dedicated filter, and a recovery-stats count, with correct thumbnails and AI camera labels.
  • Per-partition USB scan on macOS. Scan an individual partition (e.g. TESLADRIVE) directly, matching Windows.
  • macOS is now Apple Silicon only; bug fixes and reliability improvements.
v1.7.1
  • Improved recovery of fragmented clips. Tesla clips saved in scattered pieces across the drive are now detected and, where possible, reassembled into playable video.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v1.7.0
  • Faster previews. Thumbnails now generate in parallel across your CPU cores for noticeably quicker scans.
  • Smarter AI labelling. Camera-angle classification runs inline as each preview is produced.
  • General stability and reliability improvements.
v1.6.2
  • More secure, more reliable licensing. Activation now uses a hardened server-validated flow with signed license tokens — your license keeps working offline and refreshes automatically.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v1.6.1
  • AI camera labelling picks up where it left off. Reopen an interrupted project and the camera-angle classifier resumes in the background with a flashing indicator. Stats refresh live as labels are written.
  • Live counters during long scans. The processing screen now updates Clips Found while carving and Clips Analyzed while thumbnailing — no more flatlined zeros.
  • Universal macOS build. Bundled FFmpeg is now a fat binary with Apple Silicon and Intel slices, so Apple Silicon Macs no longer see the "Support Ending for Intel-Based Apps" warning and never need Rosetta.
v1.6.0
  • Simplified Chinese (简体中文). The app, activation emails, and the website all now speak Chinese. The app auto-detects your system language at first launch and you can switch between English and 简体中文 anytime from About → Language.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v1.5.1
  • Windows AI classifier now works. The camera-angle identification that shipped in v1.5 was quietly skipping every clip on Windows. Scans on Windows machines now label orphan clips the same way they do on Mac.
  • Older projects pick up the labels automatically. Open a project scanned before this release and ClipSalvage fills in the camera angles in the background — a small progress bar shows how many clips it's getting through.
  • Pick just the TESLADRIVE partition on Tesla USBs. If your drive has the original Tesla layout, the direct-USB scan dialog lets you scan only the 64 GB TESLADRIVE partition and skip the much bigger Music partition. Faster scans, same coverage.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v1.5.0
  • AI recognises the camera angle on every recovered clip. When a clip's original filename has been overwritten on the drive, ClipSalvage now looks at the clip itself and identifies which camera on the car recorded it — front, back, left pillar, right pillar, left repeater, right repeater. The correct Tesla-style filename goes back on the file, the clip drops into the right folder, and a small AI badge on the preview shows which labels came from the model versus which ones came from the drive directly.
  • Smarter cross-checking. Inside each minute of a Sentry event, the app now knows there can only ever be one clip per camera. So when it's pretty sure about all but one of the cameras and unsure about the last one, it uses process of elimination on the remaining slot — no two clips end up with the same filename, no clip gets misfiled.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v1.4.7
  • Your Tesla clips, with their original filenames. ClipSalvage now reconstructs real Tesla filenames — date, time, and camera angle — for every clip whose directory entry still survives on the drive, including events recorded in non-UTC timezones. Recovered clips drop straight into a Tesla dashcam viewer with full context.
  • Know exactly what the scan found. A new Recovery Summary button shows how many clips were carved, how many got real filenames attached, and how many have been overwritten by later Tesla recordings — no more guessing. Plus Select All (or Cmd/Ctrl+A) in the clips grid for one-click bulk recovery.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v1.4.1
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
v1.4.0
  • Your clips, the way Tesla wrote them. Recovered footage now comes back inside its original folder structure — every Sentry event in its own folder, all camera angles grouped together, original Tesla filenames intact when we can find them. Drop the recovered folder straight into a Tesla dashcam viewer and everything just works.
  • Sentry event context preserved. When Tesla's events.json files are recoverable on the drive, they come back alongside your clips so the reason, camera direction, and timestamp for each Sentry event are still there.
  • Bug fixes and improvements.
